How it works
Every unit is converted to a base unit (metre, kilogram, square metre, litre, km/h) and back. UK and US gallons differ (4.546 L vs 3.785 L); UK stone is 14 lb; temperature uses offset formulas rather than ratios.

Frequently asked questions
Property sizes in the Gulf — sq ft or m²?
UAE listings use sq ft; Saudi and Qatar use m². 1 m² = 10.764 sq ft; a 1,000 sq ft flat is 92.9 m².
Why two gallons?
The US kept the old wine gallon (3.785 L) after Britain redefined the imperial gallon (4.546 L) in 1824. UK mpg figures are therefore 20% higher than US for the same car.
Is a UK ton the same as a US ton?
No: long ton 1,016 kg (UK), short ton 907 kg (US), tonne 1,000 kg (metric).
