How it works

The Hijri year has 12 lunar months of 29 or 30 days (354 or 355 days), so it moves about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. The tabular calendar used here alternates 30/29-day months with 11 leap years per 30-year cycle. Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar and local moon-sighting announcements may differ by a day.

Formula

Julian Day Number as the bridge: Gregorian → JDN → Hijri and back
Hijri age ≈ Gregorian age × 1.0307

Worked example

19 October 2026 ≈ 7 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH. Someone born 15 June 1990 is 36 Gregorian but 37 Hijri years old.
