How it works

SSP is paid for qualifying days (your normal working days) at a weekly rate of £123.25, or 80% of average weekly earnings if that is lower. It lasts up to 28 weeks per period of sickness. Employers may top it up under a contractual sick pay scheme; the calculator shows the statutory floor.

Formula

Weekly rate = min(£123.25, 80% × AWE)
Daily rate = weekly ÷ qualifying days per week
SSP = daily rate × sick days

Worked example

10 working days off, 5-day week, £600 a week: £123.25 ÷ 5 = £24.65 × 10 = £246.50.
