How it works

Two-tier residential tariff: 18 halalas per kWh for the first 6,000 kWh a month, 30 halalas for everything above, plus 15% VAT and a small fixed meter charge. The Citizen Account programme offsets bills for eligible Saudis.

Formula

Energy = min(kWh, 6,000) × 0.18 + max(0, kWh − 6,000) × 0.30
Bill = energy × 1.15

Worked example

3,000 kWh: SAR 540 + VAT = SAR 621. 8,000 kWh: 1,080 + 600 = SAR 1,680 + VAT = SAR 1,932.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my bill jump?

Crossing 6,000 kWh moves the marginal rate from 18 to 30 halalas. July–September villas with multiple split units commonly cross it.

Is there a commercial tariff?

Yes — 20 halalas up to 6,000 kWh and 30 above for commercial; agricultural and industrial tariffs differ.

How to cut it?

Inverter AC units, thermostat at 24°C, LED lighting and sealing windows typically cut 20–30%. SEC's app shows daily consumption.
