How it works

UAE Article 43: 30–90 days' notice; the party that fails to serve pays the other the full salary for the unserved period. Qatar: one month for under five years' service, two months after. Saudi Article 75: 60 days for monthly-paid workers (30 days if the worker resigns under some contracts). Daily rate = monthly salary ÷ 30.

Formula

Daily rate = total monthly salary ÷ 30
Payment = daily rate × unserved notice days

Worked example

AED 12,000 salary, 30 days' notice, none served: AED 12,000 payable by whichever side defaulted.

Frequently asked questions

Can my employer make me work the notice and also deduct it?

No. Either you serve it (and are paid normally) or it is paid/deducted in lieu — not both.

Is notice pay subject to gratuity?

Served notice counts as service for gratuity. In the UAE, unserved notice paid in lieu is generally not added to service.

Can I be released early without penalty?

Yes, by mutual written agreement; many employers waive notice when you have found a new job and the handover is complete.
