How it works

UAE (Federal Law 9/2022): 14 days' basic wage per year after one year. Qatar (Law 15/2017): three weeks per year after one year. Saudi Arabia: one month's wage for every four years completed. Kuwait (Law 68/2015): one month per year after one year. The employer also pays the end-of-contract ticket home.

Formula

UAE: years × 14 × salary ÷ 30
Qatar: years × 21 × salary ÷ 30
Saudi: floor(years ÷ 4) × salary
Kuwait: years × salary

Worked example

AED 2,000 salary, 4 years: UAE AED 3,733; Qatar QAR 5,600; Saudi SAR 2,000; Kuwait KWD 8,000 (if salary were KWD 2,000).

Frequently asked questions

Is the gratuity based on total or basic salary?

Domestic worker contracts usually have a single salary figure with accommodation and food provided in kind; that figure is the basis.

What else is owed at the end?

Unpaid salary, accrued leave (30 days a year in the UAE and Qatar, 21 in Saudi), the repatriation ticket, and in the UAE the Tadbeer/Tadbeer-equivalent settlement must be documented.

What if the worker resigns?

In the UAE and Qatar the gratuity is still due after one year. In Saudi Arabia the 4-year block rule means resignation before a full block earns nothing for that block.
