Frequently asked questions
Is the gratuity based on total or basic salary?
Domestic worker contracts usually have a single salary figure with accommodation and food provided in kind; that figure is the basis.
What else is owed at the end?
Unpaid salary, accrued leave (30 days a year in the UAE and Qatar, 21 in Saudi), the repatriation ticket, and in the UAE the Tadbeer/Tadbeer-equivalent settlement must be documented.
What if the worker resigns?
In the UAE and Qatar the gratuity is still due after one year. In Saudi Arabia the 4-year block rule means resignation before a full block earns nothing for that block.
